To create, empower, and nurture a loving community where children with hearing and speech impairments can celebrate their unique strengths and lead lives filled with hope, self-respect, and dignity, thereby inspiring a world where no child feels alone and every individual becomes a confident, compassionate, and contributing member of society.
To provide a safe and supportive environment for children in need, especially those with hearing and speech impairments, ensuring their well-being and empowering them to reach their full potential as active, confident, self-sufficient, and valued members of society.
ANBU ILLAM is a home for both girls and boys, located in Anbu Nagar, 48B-5 Paramarthalingapuram, Vettoornimadam Post, Nagercoil – 629 003, South India. Currently, 100+ children reside in the home, while 51 deaf children are transported by a separate bus from their homes and brought back in the evening. They receive free education, accommodation, medical care, and recreational activities.
There are 16 staff members who work day and night for the wellbeing of the children at ANBU ILLAM. They stay in ANBU ILLAM and work as animators, cooks, watchman, etc. The human dignity, respect, and freedom of the children are upheld in this home through a comprehensive child protection policy, which is attached below.
The deaf and mute children receive their education at the ANBU ILLAM Free Residential School for the Speech and Hearing Impaired, situated within the ANBU ILLAM campus. The girls who can speak pursue their primary and secondary education at St. Joseph’s Convent Primary School, while the boys are enrolled at Little Flower Primary School, Ramanputhoor, for their primary education. The middle, high, and higher secondary boys are then sent to Carmel Higher Secondary School, Ramanputhoor.
The children participate in regular activities such as prayer sessions, recreational programs, playtime, extracurricular activities, and study hours. They are provided with a nurturing environment and numerous opportunities to develop holistically.
Former students gather annually at ANBU ILLAM as alumni to share their life experiences. Many of these former students are well-employed and successfully managing their family lives. ANBU ILLAM is proud to share that all of our former students are employed in various sectors and no longer depend on anyone else for their livelihood, including the women.
During times of disaster, the administration and staff of ANBU ILLAM reach out to affected families where children have been neglected and left unprotected.
